CROSSVILLE POLICE RESPOND TO MULTIPLE SHOPLIFTING INCIDENTS AT WALMART

Crossville police responded to Walmart multiple times in the past few days for reports of shoplifting.

In the first incident, a female entered the store and went to the electronics department where a bluetooth headset was stolen. Survellance video from inside and outside cameras captured the entire incident and also captured the licence tag on the vehicle used to leave the scene. A suspect was named in the report.

The same day, a man and woman went to the jewelry department to look at a diamond ring. When the man returned the box the ring was in to the cashier, either the man or woman switched the ring with a much less valued ring they already had on them. When the cashier confronted the two, the suspects left the store. A Walmart loss prevention employee was able to identify the male subject to police.

In another incident, a man entered the store and selected a comforter set then went to try to get a refund for it at the service desk in a fradulent return. The man later left the store. Crossville police learned later that the subject had completed fraudulent returns at Walmarts in Columbus, Georgia and Dothan, Alabama. The suspect was not identified in the report.

Last Friday (May 19, 2017), Crossville police again responded to Walmart where over $60 in fishing line was taken. The report states that three subjects, a caucasian male and female and an african american male, got four boxes of fishing lines and took them to try to get a refund. When the refund was denied, the three left the store with the merchandise without paying. Video of the incident led police to one of the suspects home on Daisy Avenue Saturday. Police questioned the 17-year-old suspect who identified the other male as well as the female involved but police were not able to confirm the identities of the two believed to be from the Nashville area. The juvenile was issued a citation for theft of merchandise.

Company officials say Walmart stores, including the locations in the listening area, are all equipped with surveillance cameras throughout the stores that are not only recording but are being watched all the time by loss prevention personnel. Company officials say cameras are also at all entrances to the stores as well as outside covering the parking lot areas. These videos are instrumental in prosecuting shoplifting cases which Walmart does to the fullest extent of the law.
