CROSSVILLE WOMAN CHARGED FOR POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA

Acting on an anonymous tip about a woman selling marijuana, Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies approached a home on Deck Road. When the front door was opened, a strong odor of pot emanated from it. When asked whether he had any more pot, other than what had apparently been smoked already, the resident replied, “yes, we are smoking on a quarter ounce,” and agreed to show officers where it was located.

Inside the home, deputies found another man and a woman; the odor of marijuana increased. The man who answered the door told the woman, identified as 48-year-old Lisa Joyce Smith, to give the officers the “quarter ounce” they’d been smoking. One deputy asked to speak with Smith alone, whereupon she led him into a back bedroom and agreed to let deputies conduct a search. Smith reportedly further agreed to hand over all the pot she had. She gave deputies eight plastic bags containing a green leafy substance, electronic scales with marijuana residue, and five cookies in a plastic bag labeled “Blue Cheese.” Smith later reportedly admitted the cookies had marijuana baked into them. The total amount of marijuana seized was 27 ounces, which Smith reportedly admitted was hers. She also was said to have acknowledged selling a “quarter” for $40, and claimed to have approximately 10 customers. She allegedly said when she gets marijuana, she buys no more than an ounce at a time. Smith was arrested and taken to Cumberland County jail, charged with possession of a Schedule VI drug for resale.
