CROSSVILLE WOMAN KILLED, SIX INJURED IN FOUR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

A Crossville woman was killed and six others were injured in a four vehicle accident late yesterday in Putnam County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a 2017 Jeep Cherokee driven by 76-year-old Charlotte Long of Crossville was passing in a no passing zone on Highway 70 just south of Monterey around 5:30 p.m. when an oncoming 2007 Chevy Cobalt operated by 25-year-old Karlie Turner of Crossville took evasive action to prevent a head on collision. Long struck Turner in the left side then hit a 1984 Peterbilt tractor-trailer operated by 46-year-old Bronson Songer of Spencer on the side. Songer was not hurt. Long’s vehicle then hit an oncoming 2013 Cadillac driven by 71-year-old Sherry Miller of Crossville head on. Miller and Long had to be extricated from the wreckage. Miller was flown to Vanderbilt and Long passed away from injuries sustained. Passengers in Turner’s vehicle, 54-year-old Edward Wightman of Crossville and 38-year-old Benjamin McCausland of Crossville were hurt. A 5-month-old child escaped injury. Two passengers in Long’s vehicle, 24-year-old Brooke Otero of Crossville was flown to Erlanger Medical Center while a 5-month-old child was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
