CROSSVILLIAN ARRESTED DURING INVESTIGATION OF FATAL SHOOTING AT WATERPARK
Just after 8 p.m. last night (Saturday, July 31, 2021), Sevierville police responded to Soaky Mountain Waterpark for a report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two female victims at the parking area. Authorities say 24-year old Kelsy Cook from Loudon was airlifted to U.T. Medical Center by Lifestar where she was pronounced deceased later in the evening. Angie Russell, age 23, also from Loudon, was transported to LeConte Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Officers happened to be nearby on an unrelated call and promptly respond to the waterpark. Witnesses informed them possible suspects were in a vehicle fleeing the parking area. Police were able to stop the vehicle, and two individuals in the automobile were ultimately arrested. (Note: three persons were initially detained however only two have been arrested and charged.)
Law enforcement took 31-year old Sarah Romine of Knoxville into custody for second degree murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Police believe Romines shot both victims. Joshua Dannels, age 30, of Crossville, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
The preliminary investigation indicates an argument occurred in the waterpark parking lot which escalated into the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
