CROSSVILLE TEEN PASSES AWAY IN KAYAK INCIDENT

The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency is investigating after a 15-year-old from Crossville died after a kayak was found overturned in Polk County on the Hiwassee River. The incident took place over the weekend in the Quinn Springs area.

Officials say a group of nine adults and 11 minors left in kayaks and tubes on a point-to-point trip along the river. The teenager was last seen behind the group on a sit-on-top kayak. Members of the group found the juvenile down river, unresponsive and away from his kayak.

The incident remains under investigation.
