CUMBERLAND BOARD OF EDUCATION VOTES TO ESTABLISH EVALUATION COMMITTEE

The Cumberland County Board of Education held a board retreat meeting today and on the agenda were two items regarding evaluation of the Director of Schools and the Board of Education itself.
No votes could be made during this meeting regarding the director of schools’s contract or the positions of Board of Education members as the purpose of this meeting was largely meant to be informative.
However, two agenda items regarding this evaluation were tabled to establish a committee to evaluate the Director of Schools and the Board of Education for the next monthly board meeting.
Second district school board representative Scott Vanwinkle started the motion for this.
The board members selected for this committee were Scott Vanwinkle of the second district, Anita Hale of the fourth district, and Shannon Stout of the ninth district. Of the three, only one was not among the “famous five” who elected not to renew William Stepp’s contract.
Despite the informative nature of the meeting, it was still open to the public with a public comment section. And many many attendees to the meeting took a moment to give their thoughts regarding the decision not to renew William Stepp’s contract.
Many of the attendees voiced similar sentiments to those at the County Education Committee meeting, and some even implied corruption among some board members.
