CUMBERLAND CO. COMMISSION TO DISCUSS RESOLUTION CALLING FOR SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY

The Cumberland County Commission tomorrow night (Tuesday, February 18, 2020) will entertain a resolution declaring the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary. If passed the resolution promises to enforce a citizen’s right to bear arms rather than any future federal or state laws thought to infringe on it.

This resolution does not mean that residents of Cumberland County will no longer have to obey the laws regarding firearms. Gun owners will still have to follow all current rules and regulations regarding firearms.

The newer, Second Amendment type of sanctuary refers to a city, town, or county that has adopted a resolution rejecting the enforcement of state or federal gun laws perceived to violate the Second Amendment. Targeted regulations commonly include red flag laws, universal gun background checks, and bans on assault-style weapons.
