CUMBERLAND CO. RESCUE SQUAD ASSISTS IN SEARCH FOR SUMMER WELLS

With the ongoing search for 5-year-old Summer Wells in Hawkins County, the TBI requested a state wide call out again Sunday from Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads.

Several agencies responded including members of the Cumberland County Rescue Squad. They spent the day going over areas close to the Beech Creek community where Wells disappeared nearly two weeks ago.

As nighttime came with no leads on where Wells could be, members returned home to Crossville.

An AMBER ALERT remains in effect for Wells.

She stands 3’ tall, has blonde hair and at the time of her disappearance was barefoot. She was last seen Tuesday, June 15, 2021 walking near her home in the Beech Creek community wearing a pink shirt and gray shorts.

Her mother, Candus Bly, spoke with WJHL News in an exclusive interview last night about the night Summer disappeared.

“Me and my mother and her were planting flowers, and we went in after we got done washing our hands, and Summer got a piece of candy from grandma,” Bly said. “And Summer wanted to go back over and see her brothers, and I said, ‘OK,’ and I walked her all the way over to the porch, and I watched her walking into the kitchen where the boys were watching TV. I told the boys, I said, ‘Watch Summer; I’ll be back.’ And within two minutes, I came back, and I asked the boys where their sister was, and they said, ‘She went downstairs, Mom, to play with her toys in the playroom.’ I said, ‘OK.’ And I yelled downstairs for her a couple times, and I didn’t get no answer, which was unusual because usually she always answers me. And so, I went down there to check, and she was nowhere in sight.”

Bly believes Summer was abducted. “I feel in my heart that somebody has come up here and took her … has lured her away from here.”

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office at (423) 272-7121, the TBI at 800-TBI-FIND or call 911 and report her position to authorities.
