CUMBERLAND CO. SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER JOSH STONE RESIGNS

A Cumberland County Board of Education member has submitted his resignation. Fourth district school board representative Josh Stone submitted his letter stating the reason for him stepping down was a residence move into the 1st district of the county.

Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster told 105.7 News the county commission will have to appoint someone to serve the 4th District until the next county election in August 2020. The commission could declare Stone’s seat officially vacant in their January meeting then request for ones interested in the position to apply. The county commission could appoint someone to the seat in the February 2020 meeting.

Stone sent 105.7 News a copy of his resignation letter sent to school board chairman Teresa Boston:

December 18, 2019

Dear Mrs. Teresa Boston,

Please accept this correspondence as my official resignation from the Cumberland County Board of Education. On Friday, December 13, 2019, I moved out of the 4th District and into the 1st District. My resignation is based solely on my moving out of my district. Public education in Cumberland County will remain one of my top priorities, as helping children is my passion. I plan to seek the 1st District Board of Education seat in the 2022 election. I wish you and the rest of the board members the best. Your work is very important.

Respectfully,

Josh Stone
