Officials say last Friday’s annual Relay for Life event in Cumberland County raised $74,000. That number will climb further as relay teams continue to raise money until August. Longtime Relay for Life supporter Jack Looney bought a black-diamond ring set in white gold, which was auctioned off during the event in memory of his wife, Shirley Looney, who lost her battle with cancer. A winning bid of $600 was received for the ring added to the total raised.

More than 100 cancer survivors took part in the survivors’ walk this year in Cumberland County. Relay for Life is the ultimate team fundraiser for the American Cancer Society that brings communities together to fight cancer. It is an opportunity to remember loved ones lost and honor survivors of all cancers. Community members, cancer survivors and their caregivers are encouraged to come together and unite in support of cancer research.
