CUMBERLAND COUNTY BEER BOARD APPROVES TWO PERMITS, TABLES A THIRD

When the Cumberland County Beer Board met Monday afternoon, they had three agenda items to discuss. The first, approval of an off-premises permit for Sharon Kimberly Hendley, doing business as Clifty Country Store, passed unanimously on voice vote.

When committee members commented on how nice the improvements are that Hendley has made to the establishment, she said the interior updates are almost finished and “we’ll be beautifying the neighborhood some more” in the near future.

Next on the agenda, Larry Williams – representing the Lake Tansi Village P.O.A. – spoke regarding the on- and off-premises permit for Lake Tansi Country Club, formerly operated as R Place Pub & Grill. The P.O.A. is seeking someone to run the facility and is hopeful of having someone in place in that capacity by the first of April. Because there isn’t someone to operate the country club now, and a new tenant would likely be subletting the facility from the P.O.A., the committee suggested it might not make sense for Williams to go ahead with pursing the permit now. Whoever operates the facility would have to apply for a permit once the country club is operational again – unless the P.O.A. wants to take on the potential liability associated with another entity’s running the facility. Committee member John Patterson moved to table the permit for the country club until the next Beer Board meeting on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Committee member Sue York seconded the motion, which passed unanimously on voice vote.

The third item being considered was an on- and off-premises permit for the Lake Tansi 19th Hole Snack Bar. Committee member Terry Lowe moved (and Committee member Michael Speich seconded) that the board issue the desired license with the understanding that Williams agrees to accept responsibility for the beer license until Bruce Cannon from the Cannon Restaurant Group officially takes over operation of the facility in early January. That motion also passed unanimously on voice vote.

With no further business to come before the board, the meeting adjourned at 5:13 p.m.
