CUMBERLAND COUNTY BEER BOARD LEVIES FINES FOR ILLEGAL SALE OF BEER TO MINOR

The Cumberland County Beer Board met Wednesday morning to levy fines on nine businesses that sold beer to an underage customer on Prom Night. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Dept. working with the Crossville Police Dept. and other regional law enforcement agencies, conducted the undercover operation using an underage agent. The owners of all the businesses involved appeared before the board and plead guilty to the crime. Those charged could either accept a $2500 fine or face a 90-day suspension of their license. Homestead Market, Vandever Market, Happy Sac, Plateau Exxon, Little Brad’s, Proffitt’s Market, and Greenwave Sunoco all accepted $2500 fines. Both Weigel’s of Fairfield Glade and Sawmill Market were fined $1000 due to the businesses possessing Certificates of Responsible Vendors. However both of those stores were chastised by the board because it was their 2nd time within 18 months of being charged. Board member Tim Claflin stated that “if he had his way, he would suspend their license.” All fines must be paid within seven days.
