At the Cumberland County Board of Education meeting last night, the board voted 8-1 to extend Director of Schools Janet Graham’s contract through June 30, 2020. Fourth District Board Member Teresa Boston, who headed the contract-review committee, moved to extend the contract. Fourth District Board Member Josh Stone seconded the motion. Third District Board Member Shirley French Parris was the lone dissenter. She said her vote wasn’t based on Ms Graham’s performance in her role as Director of Schools, but rather on principle. “Any director shouldn’t be [granted an] extended contract in an election year,” she explained.
