CUMBERLAND COUNTY BOE DECIDES TO PUT UP BAKERS CROSSROADS PROPERTY FOR SALE
The Cumberland County Board of Education has chosen to sell a piece of property that had formerly been purchased as a location to build a new elementary school on. The property located in the area known as Baker’s Crossroads, was bought a few years ago when the population of the county was expected to increase, particularly in that area. According to board members, new data reveals that should a new school be needed, it would be better placed inside the city limits where the growth is now expected. The nearly 40 acre plot of land was purchased by the board in 2007 for $290,000. A recent tax assessment on the property placed the value at $170,000. Many board members voiced their opinion that it would be better to put the property up for sale and have the money placed back into the board’s General Fund. A motion to that effect was made and passed to list the property at a selling price of $325,000. The director of schools was appointed to research realty companies for the task.
