The Cumberland County School Board discussed portables at Thursday night’s meeting. The portable classrooms have long been a sore-spot with the BOE. At one time, the portable situation was needed in order to accommodate a temporary fix to over-crowding at some area schools, but then it became a way of life. There are 27 portable classrooms distributed throughout the school system. Members said that they are all hard to keep up and keep clean. Many said they are unsafe, particularly now when they are separated from the main facilities. A motion was made and passed to build a plan to begin eliminating the portable classrooms.
