CUMBERLAND COUNTY BOE REVIEWS TEACHER INSURANCE OPTIONS AT WORK SESSION

The Cumberland County Board of Education held a work session on health insurance options for teachers Thursday. Finance Officer Kacee Harris and Liz Broderick gave the board a Power Point presentation of the current insurance formulas and rates. During the presentation, it was announced that according to a recent Memorandum of Understanding, problems have arisen with the formula that the county had been using for years and a change would have to be made in order to comply with the MOU. The BOE was given six different options to look at during the session and although several motions were made for adoption, all failed. Most of the options featured price increases of some type involving teacher and spouse coverage. There was much discussion on the subject, with some board members feeling that teacher raises should be commensurate with the insurance premium increases. The board then terminated the work session. A determination of a new insurance option must be made by January 1st, 2019.
