CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSION APPROVES RESOLUTION TO CAP MEDICAID/TENNCARE EXPENSES FOR INMATES
Tuesday night, the Cumberland County Commission voted in support of a statewide legislative initiative. The commission voted in favor of establishing Medicaid/TennCare rates as the maximum chargeable amount for medical services provided to inmates in county jails and state prisons. County government is responsible for funding the medical expenses of county inmates, as is the State responsible for funding the medical expenses of state prisoners. These expenses have escalated to the point that they are increasing beyond the established tax base. This resolution requests the State of Tennessee to enact legislation to cap these expenses to the rates that Medicaid/TennCare will reimburse. The resolution passed unanimously. Several routine budget amendments were approved for the school system as well.
