CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSION CONCERNED OVER DECEMBER SALES TAX COLLECTIONS

Cumberland County Commissioners received a dis-heartening report on local sales tax collections earlier this week. The numbers for December 2017 saw receipts coming in at $821,000 against a projected $927,000. That is over $100,000 below budget and was staggering numbers for what is perceived to be one of the months where sales taxes are up due to holiday buying. Year-to-date, sales taxes are down some $175,000. The county finance dept. is checking to see if there was an issue with the reported numbers. EMS collections came in at nearly $350,000 which is above budget. Those collections are still behind by $104,000. The Local Option Sales Tax showed improvement with $751,619 collected. That is 3.3 percent over projections. Property Tax collections are up compared to the same time last year, and the Hotel/Motel Tax is comparing favorably to last year at this time. Prisoner Boarding collections are at 61.9 percent against budget and the county fuel budget is in line with budgeted projections.
