CUMBERLAND COUNTY ELDERLY MAN FALLS VICTIM TO HACKER
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office took an unauthorized bank account access report yesterday.
Officers say the male in his late 70s noticed he was locked out of his Gmail account linked to his online banking account. He discovered an unknown person changed his password.
The victim went to his bank and learned the scammer made purchases from his account to various places such as DoorDash, Coinbase, and Uber. He showed law enforcement a statement showing some of the purchases, but they were non-specific to the locations.
The total amount taken from the account was $12,657.
The victim filled out fraud paperwork for his bank and stated the bank is in the process of reimbursing him.
