A Cumberland County man appeared in circuit court yesterday to be arraigned on charges of child rape and aggravated sexual battery. According to circuit court officials, 66-year-old John Raymond Walz of Crossville was arrested in October 2016 after police responded to Cumberland Medical Center. The report indicates the 4-year-old victims mother brought her to the emergency room to be examined for a possible sexual assault. The mother told officers that she left the 4-year-old at Walzs home for a few hours while she went to attend to someone that was being treated at the hospital.

A Cumberland County grand jury indicted Walz last month.

Yesterday in court, Walz was appointed an attorney and will return to court in April.

The investigation is ongoing and its’ believed that there may have been other victims of sexual abuse by the accused.
