CUMBERLAND COUNTY NOW “DISTRICT TITLE TOWN” WITH CHAMPIONSHIP WINS
Cumberland County is now called “District Title Town” after both high schools brought home their respected district high school basketball championships. Last night, the Stone Memorial Panthers boys team defeated White County 50 to 40 at Rhea County High School to win the District 6 3A title. The night before, the Lady Panthers defeated the Rhea County Lady Eagles to capture the girls title in the same division. The Cumberland County Jets defeated Grundy County 63 to 44 to win the District 7 2A Championship at Bledsoe County High School last Saturday night. The Lady Jets also won the district title with a win over Bledsoe County last Friday night by the score of 54-43.
Both the Cumberland County Jets and Stone Memorial Panthers boys and girls teams advance to the regional tournament that gets underway this Friday. On the girl’s side, Dekalb County will travel to Cumberland County and Stone Memorial will host Cleveland Friday night. On Saturday night, the boys will take the court as Cumberland County will host Smith County and Stone Memorial will host Walker Valley. All games are set for tip-off at 7 p.m. central.
