CUMBERLAND COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TACKLES MANDATED TRAFFICKING EDUCATION AND STRATEGIC PLANNING IN TONIGHT’S WORK SESSION

The Cumberland County School Board is holding its scheduled work session today, September 17, at 4:00 PM, featuring a comprehensive agenda covering state compliance, facilities, and district administration.
Among the key informational items on the docket is the rollout of a mandatory Human Trafficking Education and Guidance program. To comply with Tennessee Public Chapter 744, the district outlined its plan to deliver age-appropriate prevention awareness across grade levels. This includes utilizing KidSmartz for K-4 students, NetSmartz for grades 5-8, and the AncoraTN training program via physical education and wellness classes for high schoolers in grades 9-12.
In addition to safety initiatives, the board’s agenda addresses several operational updates:
  • Scheduling Changes: Discussion on rescheduling the upcoming October 8 work session to October 22, alongside proposed dates for the upcoming BOE Retreat in November.
  • Facilities & Athletics: Reviews regarding CCHS tennis courts, safety assessment updates involving bollards, and McKinstry project items.
  • Policy Reviews: First-round discussions on policies covering executive committees, student suicide prevention, and system transfers, alongside second readings for school attorney and financial reimbursement guidelines.
  • Administrative Items: Employee drug screening and fingerprint reimbursement discussions, an updated organizational chart, the district strategic plan, and regular financial and personnel reports.
The session wraps up following reviews of various school fundraisers, overnight field trip requests, and routine procedural matters.
