CUMBERLAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TEAMS WITH GEORGIA AUTHORITIES TO CATCH A MURDER SUSPECT

(Follow-up story) – Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies responded this past Sunday night to a home at 25 Christian Road for a shooting. Authorities found the victim, 63-year-old Billy Ray Jones, deceased from gunshot wound.

An investigation by the sheriff’s department and TBI agents revealed the suspect, 38-year-old Thomas Mack Arnold, Sr. left Tennessee heading to Florida in a green 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis.

What happened then leading to the capture of Arnold was not revealed publically until this morning when 105.7 News spoke to Sheriff Casey Cox.

“I first notified the Georgia State Patrol to see if their troopers would be on the lookout for the vehicle Arnold was driving. Then guessing on where Arnold could be if he used I-75 to head to Florida, I started to call each sheriff’s department basically from just south of Macon, Georgia down to the Georgia/Florida state line.

The calls paid off.

Deputies bordering Crisp County, Georgia first spotted Arnold in the Mercury Grand Marquis but did not have enough manpower to conduct a felony traffic stop. They notified Crisp County Arnold was approaching.

Crisp County authorities were ready and intercepted Arnold on I-75 at 3:10 a.m. Monday near Cordele, Georgia.

He was taken to the Crisp County jail and is awaiting extradition back to Cumberland County.

“I wanted to thank all the multiple agencies who worked together so well to solve this murder investigation. This is a result of team work and multiple law enforcement agencies working great together,” said Sheriff Casey Cox.

Cox says Thomas Mack Arnold, Sr. has an extensive criminal history in Cumberland County dating back to 2000. Arnold is from Jessup, Georgia. He has been arrested in the past for aggravated assault, felony evading arrest, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm while under the influence and numerous violation of probations.
