CUMBERLAND COUNTY SOLID WASTE DIRECTOR APPEARS IN COURT
Cumberland County Solid Waste Director Mike Harvel appeared in criminal court today, charged with two counts of sexual battery and one count each of assault and official misconduct. Harvel is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. In court today, Judge Gary McKenzie set a new court date of May 18 for Harvel to return. Harvel pleaded not guilty to the charges during a recent arraignment. Assistant District Attorney General Phillip Hatch told 105.7 News this morning the state has agreed with an order of bond conditions for Harvel and attorneys are still going through the discovery process in the case. Discovery, in court terms, is a pre-trial procedure through the law of civil procedure, through which evidence is obtained from the other party or parties by means of discovery devices such as a request for answers to interrogatories, request for production of documents, request for admissions and depositions. Discovery can be obtained from non-parties using subpoenas.
