A Crab Orchard woman contacted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department yesterday regarding the attempted fraudulent use of her ATM card. The woman told officers she had last used her card in Sparta on Saturday and when she tried to use it on Monday, it was declined.

When she called the bank, she was informed the account had been frozen due to suspicious activity.

The woman claims she was in possession of the card all weekend.

The account history shows unauthorized attempted withdrawals from several Putnam County Bank ATM locations, all on December 1, between 9:26 and 10:15 p.m.

No money was ever successfully withdrawn, but the attempted theft totaled $1,166  on five different tries.

When the woman went to the bank to discuss the fraudulent use, she was given an image of the suspect from the ATM camera. An investigation is underway.
