CUMBERLAND COUNTY YARD WORKERS FACES FELONY CHARGES AFTER HIGH-END JEWELRY THEFT

Two individuals hired for yard work are facing felony charges following a high-value theft at a Cumberland County residence.

Richard Snyder and Karen Lee Caldwell are scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County General Sessions Court on August 13, 2026. Both defendants face charges of Aggravated Burglary (Habitation) and Theft of Property valued between $10,000 and $60,000.

Case Background

According to an affidavit of complaint filed by Investigator Bo Kollros, the charges stem from an incident on June 29, 2026, at a home of on Osage Road. While Snyder and Caldwell were performing yard work, a pest control salesman arrived and distracted the homeowners in the sunroom. Investigators report that Caldwell and Snyder were the only individuals unaccounted for during this time. The female victim observed Snyder walking quickly from the front door toward the back of the house, initially assuming he was looking for a restroom.

Days later, the female victim discovered roughly $10,000 worth of missing rings and watches.

Law enforcement tracked part of the stolen property to a local business:

  • On July 6, 2026, Caldwell allegedly sold two stolen rings to a local jeweler, which the victim positively identified.

  • Caldwell later handed over four additional rings to investigators, claiming Snyder gave them to her.

  • While Caldwell stated the items came from Snyder, Snyder denied involvement and claimed he never went past the dining and kitchen area—a statement directly contradicted by the homeowner’s observations.

Investigators established probable cause indicating that both defendants entered unauthorized areas of the home with the intent to commit theft. Snyder is represented by the Public Defender’s office, while Caldwell is represented by attorney Joseph Wyatt.
