CUMBERLAND DEPUTIES RESPOND TO HIGH SPEED STOLEN VEHICLE CHASE

Cumberland County, TN – At approximately 8:39 a.m. this morning, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Sparta Highway to assist in a pursuit initiated by the White County Sheriff’s Office. The pursuit involved a stolen vehicle reported out of Putnam County.

The pursuit began after a license plate reader (LPR) alert in Putnam County flagged the stolen vehicle. White County Sheriff’s Office initiated the pursuit, which then entered Cumberland County at speeds reaching 100 mph. Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies deployed spike strips on Sparta Highway. The vehicle ultimately crashed into a field near the intersection of Sparta Highway and Highway 70 Access Road. Deputies quickly apprehended the driver and passenger.

The driver, Harlan Phillips, 34, of Crossville, TN was returned to White County, where charges related to the stolen vehicle will be filed. Additionally, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office will place a hold on Phillips pending a charge of vandalism related to the crash.

The passenger, Amber Mazen, 31, of Spring City, TN is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail on a hold for outstanding warrants from Sullivan County.
