DANGEROUS HEAT AND HUMIDITY EXPECTED FIRST PART OF WEEK

The National Weather Service says heat and humidity will increase across the area tomorrow (Monday, August 12, 2019) and Tuesday (August 13, 2019). Afternoon heat index values (what it will feel like) are expected to rise up to 105 degrees west of the Cumberland Plateau on Monday, and could reach as high as 110 degrees on Tuesday. Temperatures on the plateau is expected to hit 90 degrees Monday and Tuesday with heat indexes in the upper 90’s. East of the plateau, high temperatures Monday and Tuesday will be in the mid 90’s with heat indexes near 100 degrees. Such dangerously high readings could quickly cause heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning, and limit exposure to the sun. Be sure to check on relatives, neighbors, and the elderly. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
