DEADLINE TO QUALIFY FOR MAY PRIMARY CLOSING IN

The deadline for those wishing to be candidates on the ballot of the May Primary is fast approaching. Qualifying petitions must be turned in no later than 12 Noon on Thursday, Feb. 15. Three candidates running for mayor of Cumberland County have turned their paperwork in. They are Tim Claflin, Allen Foster and JC Hancock. Claflin and Foster are currently on the county commission. Hancock has been a detective with the City of Crossville for several years. Two have turned in papers to run for the office of county road superintendent. They are incumbent Scott Blaylock and Kevin Music. Two people will be running for the office of circuit court clerk. They are Jessica Burgess and Nick Neal. Both have qualified. Several have also picked up qualifying papers to be included on the ballot for the August County General and State Primary Election. In Cumberland County, 7 county commission seats and 3 school board seats will be voted on as well as State House and Senate positions. The deadline to qualify for August is Thursday, April 5 at 12 Noon.
