DEPUTIES DEAL WITH HALLUCINATING MAN WITH A BASEBALL BAT

On Friday last week, at approximately 10:21 p.m., Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Carson Road area for a disturbance. Dispatch advised deputies heard a male yelling with two other voices in the background telling the caller to “put the bat down.”
Upon arriving, Deputy Stephanie Pencka made contact with two individuals in the driveway who said Wes Hassler was inside the home with a baseball bat and was not coherent. Pencka heard yelling from the residence and saw a bat through the open door.
Deputy Pencka yelled into the residence for Hassler to exit the home and leave the baseball bat inside, to which he complied. Hassler was making statements about hitmen outside the home and people who were not there. Pencka identified herself and talked Hassler into sitting down. After squatting near the home’s entry, Hassler continued to be panicked, and wouldn’t answer questions.
Sgt. Powers and Cpl. Griffin arrived on the scene, which is when Hassler tried to crawl away from the deputies. He was restrained and placed into double-locking cuffs, and while Hassler was being escorted to Sgt. Powers patrol car, he jumped suddenly and made statements about a rattlesnake when there was no rattlesnake in the driveway.
Hassler was transported to Cumberland County Justice Center where he was booked for Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct.
While in booking, half of a Buprenorphine and Naloxone strip were found in Hassler’s wallet.
The next day, Sgt. Dustin Jackson received a call from the homeowner who said he located narcotics left behind at the residence. Upon arriving, the deputy was presented with a tied bag corner containing suspected methamphetamine.
