DEPUTIES RESPOND TO A CAR IN THE POND OFF PLATEAU ROAD

On Wednesday the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a vehicle in a pond off Plateau Road.  A Chevrolet SUV was off the right side of the southbound lane partially submerged up to the bottom of the doors. Shannon Kapinski, age 54, stated she was driving when she swerved to miss a deer, and drove off the roadway.  When officers were speaking to Shannon, they noticed she had slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet.  She admitted she had two alcoholic beverages earlier. After she failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, she was placed in handcuffs.

Andrew Kapinski, who was also in the vehicle with her, admitted he knew Shannon had been drinking and said that she was “probably too drunk to be driving.” He was also transported to intake.
