DEPUTIES: STOKES ARRESTED AFTER HITTING MALE WITH VEHICLE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A Cumberland County woman familiar to law enforcement was arrested yesterday after hitting a man with a vehicle in Lake Tansi.

The incident took place on the 1,000 block of Natchez Trace. Initial reports indicate a domestic altercation resulted in 55-year-old Susan Denise Stokes of Crossville striking the male with a Dodge Dart then fled the scene. The victim was bleeding from his arms and legs but initially refused medical treatment.

Officers stopped Stokes several minutes later at the corner of Highway 70 East and Peavine Road. She was taken to the Cumberland County jail charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest and resisting arrest.

In November 2019, Stokes was arrested after reportedly stabbing a male with a steak knife at a home on Apache Trail in Lake Tansi.

In June 2019, Stokes was involved in a standoff with law enforcement in Cumberland County reportedly armed with a knife. She was arrested and taken to jail.

This makes the fifth pedestrian to be hit by a vehicle in Cumberland County in just over a month. Other incidents since July 14, 2020 include (these incidents are not related to the Stokes arrest):

July 14, 2020 – Natchez Trace in Lake Tansi 50 feet from Moccasin Lane – 60-year-old Alice I. Brown (victim)
