DETAILS ON BROWNTOWN AREA FIRE; NO INJURIES OR HOMES LOST

During the major windstorm this week, a large wildfire kicked off in the Browntown Road area. Assistant Fire Chief Gary Blaylock of the Cumberland County Fire Department said the fire started a bit after 7 p.m.
State Forestry confirmed around 300 acres of pines were up in flames before the fire could be contained. Blaylock said no homes were in immediate danger, but fire crews still used over 150 gallons of water on various hotspots to keep the flames from crossing the road into more hazardous areas.
County Fire crews were out combatting the blaze until around 11 p.m. when rains mercifully helped in putting out the fire.
According to Blaylock, no one was hurt, and he “Couldn’t ask for a better outcome.”
