DETAILS ON LAST NIGHT’S FATAL ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 111

A tragic crash on State Route 111 in White County, Tennessee, on Monday afternoon claimed the lives of four people and involved 18 individuals across three vehicles. Around 5:30 p.m. near the O’Connor Road exit, a white Dodge Durango, driven by 22-year-old Braden Chaphe, veered from the northbound left lane across the center line, side-swiping a GMC Yukon.

The Durango then lost control, crossed the median into the southbound lanes, and collided head-on with a Ford Econoline van. Chaphe and the van’s driver, 76-year-old Stanley Stewart, along with two van passengers, 29-year-old Bethany Beachy and 2-year-old Andrew Beachy, were killed. The Durango’s 2-year-old passenger and the 12 surviving passengers in the van, ranging from 30 years old to 7 months and believed to be from the same family, sustained injuries of unknown severity. The lone driver of the GMC Yukon was uninjured.

The crash closed both directions of State Route 111 for hours, with drivers rerouted until the highway reopened overnight after the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s investigation.
