DETAILS RELEASED OF SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

The Tennessee Highway Patrol released a report this morning of a school bus accident Friday in eastern Cumberland County.

It states a 1989 Ford Ranger driven by 26-year-old Troy B. Pemberton rear-ended a 2023 Thomas school bus operated by 50-year-old Karen P. Golliher.

The bus stopped on Highway 70 near the Westel Fire Hall to pick up a student. Officers say that is when the pickup truck hit the bus in the rear. Troopers say the bus had all warning signs and lights activated when Pemberton crashed into it.

Pemberton told officers he fell asleep prior to striking the bus.

Authorities noted 27 students on board the bus.

The bus driver and all the students escaped injury.

Pemberton was extricated from the wreckage of the truck. He was treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

The report did not indicate any charges in relation to the accident.
