Rockwood police and medics responded around 10 a.m. this morning to an address on North Front Avenue near the community center for a shooting.

A female was found in the home who sustained a gunshot wound to her chest.

Medics transported the woman by ambulance to the sports complex, where Lifestar landed. She was flown to U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville for treatment.

This is a developing story. The Rockwood Police Department will release more information, including the identity of the female, at a later time.

This is the second shooting in Rockwood in the past five days.

Lifestar was sent to Rockwood last Sunday and landed on Gateway Avenue next to the Budget Motel to transport a female from a room there who also was suffering from a gunshot wound. The female later passed away. Authorities have not released any further details of that incident. The investigation is ongoing.
