The TBI is investigating a shooting in the Crab Orchard area last night involving a Fairfield Glade police officer. Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox told 105.7 News this morning agents are investigating the incident involving Police Chief Mike Williams, stemming from a family dispute. No injuries were reported. The incident reportedly took place at a roadside park on Deep Draw Road and Highway 70 East near the KOA Campground. Preliminary reports indicate the chief’s brother reportedly exited his vehicle and approached the chief allegedly in a threatening manner. Chief Williams then fired his service weapon, striking his brother’s vehicle, close to where his brother was standing. Brandon Lee Williams, age 37, then left the scene in his vehicle. The chief notified dispatch and authorities started to look for Brandon Williams.

Crossville police came upon Brandon Williams in a red Ford Explorer on Peavine Road coming into the city. He reportedly was traveling at speeds up to 80 miles per hour. Spike strips were deployed in front of the Exxon station on Peavine Road next to Interstate 40; Brandon Williams swerved to miss them. He got on I-40 and hit a wooden board on the ramp that flew up and struck the police cruiser. The chase proceeded to the 320 exit (Genesis Road) and came to a stop at the end of the exit ramp, when Brandon Williams got out of the vehicle. Officers reportedly asked him several times to get on his knees; he did not comply. Officers were able to get Brandon Williams into custody and charged him with evading and resisting arrest.

The TBI will present its findings of the incident to the district attorney’s office once the investigation is complete.
