DISTURBANCE CALL LEADS TO DEPUTY USING TASER ON SUSPECT
Cumberland County deputies had to use a taser to subdue a suspect yesterday. Officers responded to the area of Highway 70 East at Rock Quarry Road for a physical disturbance. The report states 46-year-old David Scott Kirkland was chasing a female in the back parking lot of First Presbyterian Church. The deputy ordered Kirkland to stop which he reportedly did not and went into a wooded area. After a brief foot chase, the officer deployed his taser after Kirkland allegedly refused to comply with instructions from the deputy. He was taken to Cumberland Medical Center to have a taser barb removed from his abdominal area then to jail for evading and resisting arrest.
