DOTSON GOES ON TRIAL FOR STARVING DEATH OF HIS 2-YEAR-OLD SON

Jury selection wrapped up Tuesday afternoon and the trial of Matthew Dotson began today for his role in the 2012 starving death of his son near Lenoir City.

Last year, Amanda Dotson pleaded guilty to charges related to the death of her son; she’s serving 40 years in prison for her role in the child’s death.

In 2012, Clifford Dotson was rushed to the emergency room of Fort Loudon Medical Center. Officials say he weighed just 12 pounds. Within hours of his arrival at the emergency room, little Clifford was dead. An autopsy later revealed the boy died of malnutrition. Investigators turned their attention toward the parents, Matthew and Amanda Dotson.

The jury has been sequestered for the trial, which began today and may last anywhere from three to seven days.
