DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY IN TRACTOR-TRAILER FIRE ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A tractor-trailer fire just after 5 a.m. today (June 15, 2020) closed eastbound lanes of I-40 in Cumberland County. Trooper Bobby Barker says a 2018 Kenworth cab driven by 28-year-old Cecil Ingram of Nashville was pulling a 2006 Great Dane trailer loaded with new tires when he thought he had a flat tire. He pulled over on the shoulder at the 333 mile marker and discovered the trailer brakes, tires and axle was on fire. The blaze spread to trailer destroying it and the cargo. The truck was unhooked and pulled away in time. Ingram was not injured. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours. Traffic was restored to one lane of travel just after 7 a.m. today. It should be returned to normal flow later in the day after what is left of the trailer is removed.
