DRIVER FLEES SCHOOL ZONE TRAFFIC STOP, LEADS POLICE ON PURSUIT ENDING IN CRASH
An Oliver Springs Police officer spotted a vehicle driving unsafely through an active school zone on East Tri County Boulevard around 2:45 p.m. today, specifically because it was missing its right rear tire. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the driver initially pulled over and complied. However, when asked to exit the vehicle for further investigation, the man suddenly fled the scene in a reckless manner.
A short pursuit followed, continuing onto Airport Road and then Batley Road, where the vehicle ultimately crashed into a large stone mailbox fixture near Phillips Freels Lane and became disabled. Authorities took a 20-year-old man from Kingston into custody at the scene on multiple charges related to the incident.
It was later discovered that he had an active warrant out of Knox County for aggravated domestic assault. In line with standard procedure, the Tennessee Highway Patrol handled the crash investigation, while the Oliver Springs Police Department will file all charges stemming from the traffic stop and pursuit. The department emphasized that protecting the community—particularly children in school zones—remains their highest priority.
