DRIVER REFUSES TO PERMIT SEARCH; K-9 DETECTS METH; WOMAN JAILED
Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop Wednesday night along the 1500 block of Miller Avenue and came in contact with 29-year-old Candice Nachea Kirby. When asked for her license and registration, she responded, “Y’all know me and my history.” Deputies say she appeared to be in a hurry, would not answer questions and could not finish a sentence. She also was said to be speaking extremely fast and unable to keep still. She denied having anything illegal in the vehicle and repeatedly refused to consent to a search, saying it wasn’t her vehicle. Deputies deployed K-9 Apollo to do an exterior sniff. He showed secondary indicators at the trunk. A subsequent search turned up a purse inside the trunk containing a crystalline substance that field tested positive for meth, and two glass pipes with crystalline residue. Kirby denied it was hers, although she did claim ownership of the phone found alongside the meth.
Kirby was charged with manufacture, sale, delivery or possession of meth and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed under $11,000 bond and is due to appear in court March 4.
