DUI ARREST IN FAIRFIELD GLADE AFTER STRIKING GUARDRAIL

On May 4, 2025, Deputy Nikolas Brendel responded to a vehicle incident on St. George Drive in Fairfield Glade, involving James Jackson Joynt, a 22-year-old male. Joynt’s 2017 Toyota Camry had significant passenger-side damage and two flat tires after striking a guardrail. Observed slumped over in the driver’s seat, Joynt admitted to hitting an unknown object and was uncooperative in identifying it.
During the investigation, Cpl. Janow found suspected marijuana shake, THC-A cigarette containers, and unpackaged marijuana cigarette butts in the vehicle. Joynt admitted to having sealed alcohol in the car but denied marijuana possession.
Field sobriety tests indicated impairment as Joynt failed the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test by moving his head, struggled with the Walk and Turn test by taking 27 steps instead of nine and using arms for balance, and performed poorly on the One-Leg Stand test. Additional signs of marijuana use included a lack of convergence in one eye, a white film in his throat, body tremors, and difficulty with divided attention tasks.
Joynt was arrested for Driving Under the Influence with a bond set at $1,500 and a court date of June 2, 2025.
The vehicle was impounded, and a tow truck was arranged. A Titan crash report was filed, and Officer Beaty documented guardrail damage with paint transfer matching Joynt’s car.
Joynt was transported to Cumberland County Jail for booking.
