U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials and contractors are scheduled to be in Harriman to start the cleanup of the former papermill site on Emory Street. Five years ago, the EPA added the site, which officials say poses a risk to people’s health and the environment, to the National Priorities List of Superfund sites. Superfund is the federal program that investigates and cleans up the most complex, uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites in the country to protect people’s health and the environment.
