FAIRFIELD GLADE POLICE DEPARTMENT SHARES ESSENTIAL SAFETY TIPS FOR A SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN
As Halloween approaches, the Fairfield Glade Police Department (FGPD) has released a set of community safety guidelines to ensure a secure and fun holiday for local families.
To keep neighborhood celebrations safe for all the ghosts, goblins, and superheroes hitting the pavement, the department emphasizes precautions for both pedestrians and motorists:
-
Visibility & Movement: Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to “be bright and be seen” by utilizing flashlights, reflective tape, and glow sticks. Families should stick to walking instead of running, use sidewalks, and cross strictly at intersections.
-
Costume Safety: Parents should ensure costumes are well-fitted to prevent tripping hazards, opting for face paint over masks that could obstruct vision.
-
Driver Awareness: Motorists are urged to slow down in neighborhoods, eliminate distractions like mobile phones, and stay vigilant for excited children near parked cars and roadways.
-
Treat Inspection & Supervision: Officials remind parents to thoroughly inspect all collected candy, discarding any items with opened or damaged packaging. Additionally, younger children should be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times, while older children must travel in groups with a designated plan.
The FGPD summed up their community reminder with a lighthearted touch: “The only thing we want getting scared this Halloween is the candy out of your bucket—not our trick-or-treaters!”
