FAMOUS TREEHOUSE IN CROSSVILLE WILL NOT BE TORN DOWN

WBIR in Knoxville is reporting the new owner of the property where a famous treehouse was built in Crossville many years ago says the treehouse will remain standing.

Last Tuesday night, the Crossville City Council voted to proceed with a water line extension on Beehive Lane on the property that Glenn Clark now owns. The property also has the treehouse on it. That decision from the city council was not related to the treehouse since it closed eight years ago.

Crossville Councilman Scot Shanks told 105.7 News earlier this week that Horace Burgess, the creator and builder of the treehouse, said eventually it would have to come down.

After the first story ran this week, numerous individuals commented on our website and Facebook page calling for the treehouse to remain standing.

The new owner of the property the treehouse is on, Glenn Clark, says the treehouse will remain standing, according to WBIR.

Horace Burgess started building the treehouse back in 1993. It was later called “The Minister’s Treehouse” as Burgess was inspired by a vision from God to do the project. It would take a decade to complete.

The state fire marshal ordered the treehouse closed in 2011 after finding violations.

Citizens are reminded the entrance to the treehouse is closed and the land it is on is not open to the public.

The treehouse is in bad shape in many areas because of the untreated lumber being exposed to years of diverse weather conditions. It is unsafe for people to attempt to go up the treehouse. But one man’s vision will remain a beacon in Cumberland County for as long as it can remain standing.
