A driver lost his life in a two-vehicle accident early this morning around 7 a.m. in Cumberland County.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a 2013 Dodge Avenger driven by 40-year-old James P. Shrewsbury of Fentress County was traveling south on Highway 127 near Tabor Loop when he crossed the center line and hit an oncoming 2015 Peterbilt tractor-trailer operated by 61-year-old Benny M. Hughes.

The impact spun the Dodge counter-clockwise back across the center line and off the roadway.

Shrewsbury died from injuries sustained in the impact.

Hughes was not hurt in the accident.

Traffic was backed up in both directions on the highway at the scene for nearly two hours.
