FEDERAL FUNDS TO AID IN COMBATING BLOUNT COUNTY FIRES
Federal funds have been authorized to help combat wildfires caused by arson in Blount County. The Federal Emergency Management Agency say that the agency will reimburse 75 percent of the funding used to fight the fires which have consumed more than 1000 acres around the Walland Community. The state requested the aid, which is a Fire Management Assistance Grant, and it was acknowledged Saturday evening. Firefighters have been keeping the fire under control as it threatened over 200 homes, and structures including a school, cell tower, and power lines.
