FENTRESS COUNTY SHERIFF ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION

In Fentress County, Tennessee, Sheriff Michael Reagon has officially resigned from his position nearly a month after being indicted and arrested on a charge of tampering with government records.
The resignation was announced on the sheriff’s office Facebook page by Chief Deputy Hunter Fowler, who has assumed operational leadership of the agency and assured residents that services will continue without interruption, emphasizing the staff’s commitment to law enforcement, community protection, and professional public safety. Fowler highlighted transparency, accountability, and service as the agency’s core principles moving forward.
Reagon’s November 20 arrest followed a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation probe launched in April, stemming from allegations that former detective Jerry Lynn Mifflin fraudulently completed mandatory in-service training courses for Reagon in December 2024 to maintain his compliance with the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission, thereby qualifying him for a salary supplement.
Mifflin faces the same tampering charge, while the POST Commission is considering decertifying Reagon following a subcommittee’s recommendation in October to refer the matter to the full commission.
