On Thursday, October 30, 2025, at approximately 0517 hours, the Fentress County Fire Department, Fentress County EMS, and the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residential structure fire at 1659 Shaver Road in rural Fentress County, with reports of a possible occupant inside.
Upon arrival, crews found the residence fully engulfed in flames. A defensive attack was initiated to contain the blaze and protect nearby exposures.
Personnel from Fentress County Fire Units 7, 3, and 1 responded, along with Fentress County EMS, the Sheriff’s Office, Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
Tragically, one fatality occurred in the fire. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The home was a total loss, and there were no injuries to emergency personnel.
The TBI and Fentress County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
“This is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly fire can spread and how devastating it can be,” said Fire Chief Larry Cooper. “Please check your smoke alarms, make an escape plan, and talk with your family about what to do in case of fire. Preparation saves lives.”
Fire Safety Tips
• Check smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries yearly.
• Install alarms in every bedroom and on each level of your home.
• Never leave space heaters unattended; keep them three feet from anything flammable.
• Have a family escape plan and a meeting place outside.
• Call 911 immediately-never re-enter a burning home.
“Our hearts are heavy with this tragic loss,” said Chief Deputy Hunter Fowler. “Our office is committed to working with TBI to determine the cause. We also thank the first responders who worked tirelessly under dangerous conditions.”
The Fentress County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office extend their deepest condolences to the family and appreciation to all responding agencies for their professionalism.
